Indonesia-Chile Trade Relations Strengthen with Electronic Phytosanitary Certificates

In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade, Chile and Indonesia have officially adopted the exchange of electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhyto). This initiative, led by Chile's Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero (SAG) and Indonesia's Autoridad de Cuarentena (IQA), aims to streamline the import and export processes for horticultural, forestry, and plant propagation materials. The move eliminates paper-based documentation, benefiting exporters and importers from both nations by reducing processing times and improving efficiency.

Indonesian Authorities Seize 1.16 Tons of Ketamine in Northern Sumatra

In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Indonesian authorities intercepted a Mongolian-flagged tanker in Tanjung Balai, Northern Sumatra. A joint operation between the National Police and Customs Service resulted in the seizure of 1.16 tons of ketamine hidden aboard the vessel. This operation underscores Indonesia's commitment to combating transnational crime and ensuring maritime security.

Mixed Trends in Chile’s Forestry Exports
  • The Biobío Region saw a 7.8% increase in forestry exports in August 2026, reaching $211.1 million, driven by higher demand from European markets such as Germany and the Netherlands.
  • However, the region’s cumulative forestry exports for the first eight months of 2026 declined by 9.1%, primarily due to reduced demand from China. Despite this, cellulose exports remained a strong performer, accounting for over 62% of total shipments.

This growth has spurred investments in mechanized harvesting technologies to enhance efficiency and meet the demands of an increasingly competitive global market.
